Effective Aug. 16 the Flatwood Refuse and Recycling Center will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The county landfill site located on Weaver Road in Amissville is open on Monday and Thursday from- Z:30 to 3:30 p.m. and on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Phil Irwin gives
another easement
Phil Irwin, who in 1973 donated the first conservation easement in Rappahannock County (protecting Caledonia Farm as it was then constituted), has just become the county's most recent easement donor. The latest donation, recorded on Aug. 9 protects 30 acres across Dealing Road from the Caledonia housetoday a bed-and-breakfast. It bring Irwin's easement gifts to 82 acres, and the countywide total to 10,241 acres. Irwin's latest easement covers a tax parcel which is separate from Caledonia Farm. But, it is unique in the county in that it allows only "farm buildings or structures" on the property, pneaning that this 30-acre field will never be converted to residential use.
