On Wednesday night the Amissville Area Community
Association (AACA) presents the findings of its survey of the residents of Jackson District and Amissville to the Rappahannock County Planning Commission. It was undertaken with the realization that it was essential to understand what is important to the people in order to reflect their concerns and desires. Both what they want and don't want, as well as how strongly they feel about each. It was a sizable but vital task; because only then could the direction for the community be determined.
Well the results are in, and the most gratifying aspect is the unity of the community in its responses. Many in the county and the community, may be surprised to discover how strongly we all agree on what is important to us here on the eastern edge of Rappahannock!
Some 94 percent feel "Preserving the historical, rural, and natural beauty of Amissville” is "most important". Second, at over 89 percent, is "Retaining local farms and farmland". Third and fourth respectively are "Managing the rate of growth and development" 83.6 percent and "Developing a sense of community". Other responses in the survey further support these as the resident's priorities.
What is clear is that the vast majority in this community shares a common vision for the future! The job now is to take those actions necessary to assure that goal is achieved.
