B&B extension
A public hearing was held on Fran Eldred’s request for a second extension on her Special Use Permit for a two-room bed and breakfast. The Special Use Permit had been issued originally on Aug. 12, 1998, extended for one year to Aug. 12, 2000, and Mrs. Eldred requested an additional extension of the permit. She said that she had been tending to an ailing relative and had not been able to devote the required time to the project, but "now has an individual who wants to rent it for a restaurant and B&B."
Council member Lynch recused himself from this hearing and the Council debate, leading to the obvious conclusion that he and/or The Inn was the prospective lessor of the tavern.
John Byam was the sole member of the public who spoke in opposition to the application (and none spoke in favor), contending that the Town ordinance limited a permit s duration to ensure that efforts were performed with due diligence, unless there were extenuating circumstances, and to prevent the Town from appearing as a work in progress. Mayor Willis proposed that the permit be extended for six months, and the Council voted in favor of the extension.
