The Inn at Little Washington, Rappahannock County's most famous business, is the subject of a new book that reveals the thousands of little things that added up to big success for two perfectionists who started out catering dinner parties and washing dishes.
The fascinating story of the worldfamous restaurant developed by partners Reinhardt Lynch and Patrick O’Connell is told in a lavishly-illustrated new book just published this summer. "The Inn at Little Washington: An Insider's Look at the Famed Restaurant and its Cuisine," is a behind-the-scenes tour that discloses dozens of details that may amuse, astonish or perhaps appall the average reader.

• From its wine cellar of 15,000 bottles and 1,000 different wines, it is possible to order a vintage 1900 Chateau d'Yquem Sautemes at a price of $10,000 per bottle.
• Waiters are trained never to say no. "Guests want to be able to feel that any fantasy they have can be addressed," O'Connell, the Inn’s founding chef, is quoted as saying. The waiter might gently try to steer a diner away from ordering pickles with the foie gras, but if the diner insists, pickles it is.
