Effective today, Wednesday, Aug. 16 the Flatwood
Refuse and Recycling Center will be open on
Wednesday and Thursday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. ; At this month's Supervisors meeting County Administrator John McCarthy said that he had received requests for the earlier opening of Flatwood. We certainly understand the concerns of the people in the northern section of Rappahannock County in relation to the one-hour travel time to dispose of their trash. We couldn't agree more though with Chairman Pete Estes when he stated that people in Slate Mills have been going through this same problem for years and still do.
Trash is a common problem for all of us. We applaud Supervisor Roger Welch for trying to organize community meetings to help solve this problem. We urge the citizens of Wakefield District to attend the meetings when scheduled to see if a solution can be found.
Residents are also reminded that the Amissville ! Landfill site hours are Monday and Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The Amissville site is closed on Wednesday and Sunday. The Flatwood center is closed on Monday and Tuesday.
There will probably never be a solution that will please all the people, however county officials are certainly listening to residents.
