For the first time in four decades, the historic Avon Hall estate in the Tbwn of Washington will be open for guided walking tours at a fall garden party to benefit the Rappahannock Historical Society on Sunday after* noon, Sept. 30.
Costumed members of the historical society will lead tours of the into-" rior of the 200 year old Federal home, under the direction of Fran Eldred, the society’s museum curator, who has researched its history.
The home has been furnished with rare furniture from estates of well known Washingtonians, including items that belonged to senators ■ and governors.
Its owner, since July 1960, was William Carrigan, who died Nov. 20, 2000. The estate, which is located on Warren Avenue, is for sale.
