Invitational Labor Day Mixed Double Handicap Whistlecup Tennis Tournament will be staged this year on five local courts, according to Mrs. Marta Tholand, permanent chairman of the event. Preliminary round-robin matches will be played Sept. 6 on the courts of Dr. and Mrs. Werner Krebser, Mr. and Mrs. Fanning Baumgardner, Mr. and Mrs. Ike Parrish, Judge and Mrs. Rayner Snead and Mr. and Mrs. James J. Kilpatrick.
Children are getting ready for school and a familiar face can do a lot to help new kindergarteners adjust to being away from home. In a photo, Rodney Grimsley helps his brother, Jason, try on his new school shoes. Jason, 5, will start school next week. Rodney is a seventh-grader at RCHS. Both boys are the sons of Cherry and Russell Grimsley of Huntly.

The Rappahannock High varsity soccer team, under new coach Uli Maeyer, began practice last week, along with other fall sports.
A is for Angus and in a photo Ray T. Cannon's registered Angus cattle herd “mysteriously5, assembled themselves in the letter “A” in Castleton. Mr. Cannon has 40 years in Angus breeding.
Work on the four-laning of US 211 should begin in October, resident engineer Robert Moore recently. Mr. Moore said the Virginia Department of Transportation has a “project showing^ for potential bidders scheduled for Aug. 29 and that the highway department expects to receive bids in September.
Wakefield Country Day Headmaster Pamela Lynn addressed a meeting Thursday on plans to open a new institution at Huntly. The meeting to publicize plans for Wakefield Country Day School in Huntly left organizers “very encouraged.”
