Miss Virginia Stringfellow, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ned Stringfellow, Amissville was crowned queen of the Amissville festival Friday night by Miss Nancy Settle, outgoing queen. She was presented a bouquet of red roses and $25 cash.
The Rappahannock Garden Club held its regular August meeting Wednesday, Aug. 16 at the home of Mrs. E.M. Jones in Washington. Mrs. Jones gave a talk on “Nursery Pitfalls.”
Mrs. D. Buchanan Merryman celebrated her 98th birthday on Saturday at Wakefield Manor, Huntly, the home of her cousin, Mrs. Newbold Noyes. Mrs. Merryman is the favorite aunt of the Duchess of Windsor and is remembered as the “Aunt Bessie”, who chaperoned her niece in London during the abdication crises and accompanied the couple abroad afterward.

After a long executive session Monday morning, the Rappahannock School Board announced the appointment of Margarita Piper as elementary principal to replace Graham Spencer who resigned earlier this month. Mrs. Piper served as assistant principal of the elementary school for the 1980-81 year.
Big yellow school buses will roll again next Thursday, carrying loads of Rappahannock youngsters to the start of classes for the 198182 school year. While the buses have set idle all summer, transportation superintendent Allie Huff has been anything but. During his summer “vacation,” Huff has gone over his 21 bus fleet with a fine tooth comb to ensure that when the engines turn over Thursday morning, theyll turn over in vehicles that are as safe as he can possibly make them.
