Lowell Owsley has run the
Fodderstack 10KM Classic with a
stray hog in tow. He has run with friends and he has run alone. He has been rained on, and he has sweated profusely in an unusual April’s sweltering heat.
Yet in 24 years, nothing has kept the 72-year-old Jeffersonton resident who has run 11 marathons, from running his favorite road race.
“I think Fodderstack was my first race when I started running again (after college) and it’s still my favorite,” said Mr. Owsley, who plans to run Fodderstack for the 25th time this April.
“It’s a beautiful course and a good time of year, and also a great group of people. It’s pretty difficult as far as the hills are concerned, but it’s pretty and it’s apple blossom time, so who cares?”
County Administrator John McCarthy expects that between 300 and 350 Rappahannock residents, city dwellers and suburbanites alike will come out to the 25th annual Fodderstack race on Saturday, April 26.
There have been some special additions to this year’s anniversary celebration.
One new feature is an afternoon long “Country Festival” sponsored by the Flint Hill Volunteer Fire Department from 1-4
