James M. Cannon
Castleton resident
James Michael Cannon, 51 of Castleton, died Jan. 19 at his residence.
Mr. Cannon, fondly known to many as “Jimmy,” was bom Feb. 24, 1951 in Charlottesville, to Ray Thomas Cannon and the late Ruby Stringfellow Cannon.
Mr Cannon graduated from Randolph Macon Military Academy and in 1973 graduated from Virginia Tech.
Most recently Mr. Cannon walked as the Field Sales Coordinator for the Culpeper Farmers Co-op, was a member of the Sperryville United Methodist Church, was on the Rappahannock Farm Bureau Insurance Board of Directors, and was vice president of the Castleton Community Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. Cannon is survived by his wife of 24 years, Martha Fulbright Cannon and their two children, Ashleigh Grady Cannon and James Michael Cannon II.
He is also survived by his three sisters, Ann Cannon Powell of Warrenton, Donna Cannon Wilkers of New Baltimore and Vicky Mergenthal of Fredericksburg; two uncles, Dallas Stringfellow of Warrenton and Alphaeus F. Cannon of Castleton.
Mr. Cannon is also survived by seven nieces and nephews and a long time friend, Peter Powell.
The family received friends on Jan. 21 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel in Culpeper.
A funeral service was held there the following day with the Pastor Merlin W. Shorb and Rev. Phillip Bailey officiating.
Pallbearers named are Jimmie DeBergh, Doug Baumgardner, Tom Massie Sr., George McIntyre, Dean Hahn and John Henry Woodward.
Internment will follow at the Cannon family cemetery in Castleton.
