Tb force you to have to sell in order to afford to pay your taxes (based on a fabricated “value” which you have no control over) or otherwise lose everything, IS confiscatory.
This current sham of assessing property values on a continual basis without a sale occurring allows our government to be dishonest.
When they need more operational monies, they increase the tax base through reassessment and what we see as taxpayers is the approved “tax rate” which stays relatively low and we are lulled in to thinking that we really need all the services that are included in the yearly budget. And even believe, indeed, that our loyal servants are doing the very best they can to balance our “needs” (not wants) with our resources.
An honest value for the land in our county is essential for the elusive rural character of this county to remain. I want that. We — all of us — are the government. We can change this outrageous situation. The methods are not fixed in stone.
This isn’t about the question, which will most assuredly be tossed forth, of where else can we get the money? This is about honesty and responsibility. Are our elected representatives being responsible? Is the true picture being presented to the constituency? When you vote are you voting based on accurate and timely information?
This issue is way overdue for rectification.
