Forester William C. Vernam of the Virginia Division of Forestry reports that so far this year six orders have been placed with the Virginia Division of Forestry for a total of 17,000 trees to be planted in Rappahannock County in the spring of 1961.
Fifty-five million trees are available to landowners for reforesting cutover woodlands and abandoned land. Trees cost $4.50 to $8.50 per thousand trees delivered to the landowner depending on the species of tree to be planted with approximately 1,000 trees being needed to plant an acre of open land and about 500 trees to restock\an acre of cutover land.
Landowners in Rappahannock who have ordered trees are Bradley H. Patterson, Woodville; Irvin O. Wolf, Woodville; Wade H. Massie, Jr. Washington; E. A. Willis, Boston; J. S. Buckner, Sperryville and Mrs. L. G. Noyes, Huntly.
Silas Woodward, who escaped from Rappahannock County Jail on Jan. 11 has been apprehended in Montgomery County, Maryland and charged with two felonies committed since he fled from jail. One charge is auto larceny and one is housebreaking.
