The Board of Supervisors unanimously adopted a school budget at its May 5 meeting that brought smiles to Interim Superintendent Helen Williams and the four School Board members in attendance.
But it may bring frowns to some county taxpayers.
The supervisors cut the proposed School Board budget by $100,000. That still leaves an increase in the county contribution that will require a read estate tax rate rise of $0.06 per one hundred dollars of assessed valuation.
The tax rate increase is likely, but still dependent upon the Board of Supervisor s passage of the overall county budget. The public hearing and consideration of that budget will occur next month.
The total school budget for Fiscal Year 2004—as approved by the supervisors—will be $9,627,273 and of that, $6,373,000 will be borne directly
