Rappahannock County High School teammates Torsten Hermansen and Adam Freitag won the Virginia State Championship at a state technology competition held in Hampton, Va. last month.
RCHS members of the Technology Student Association (TSA) competed with over 1,000 students from around the state and won top awards at the two day Leadership and Competitive Events conference at the Holiday Inn on April 25-27.
A Rube Goldberg type contraption was the Technical Challenge.
“I built a machine that had to turn a light on and off using a golf ball in exactly 60 seconds," said Torsten. “Thanks to last minute design changes and a great planned strategy, Adam and I beat the best in Virginia,” he said.
“We all had a great weekend,” said Adam. “I feel like we created the world’s most complicated light switch.”
Winning spcond in the state in thev Promotional Graphics Contest was Jenny Ferdetta who developed a graphic design that could be used as a TSA recruitment tool and includes the theme for next year’s conference.
“I used Abode PhotoShop to create a picture that demonstrated TSA-Visualizing the next 25 years,’ said Jenny. “ TSA is fun. You learn to be smart.”
