Dog Day Afternoon ’
The Rappahannock Animal Welfare League (RAWL) will hold its third annual Dog Day Afternoon on Saturday, May 31 from 12 noon to 5 p.m. Rain date is Sunday, June 1. It will be held at Windsor Lodge Farm, outside Flint Hill. The cost is $5 per person; children 12 and under, free. For more information call 540-636-3308.
Scouts to hold open house
Scout Troop 36 will hold a recruitment open house at the Washington Volunteer Fire Department Firehall at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 12. Boys between the ages of 11 and 17 may learn more about scouting in Rappahannock County. The troop will display camping gear, lashing projects, a model campsite and photographs of troop outings and activities. A representative camp desert will be served to the willing.
Community Prayer Service
Community Prayer Service" continues to be observed at Trinity Episcopal Church on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. This is a time of corporate prayer for the conclusion of the war in Iraq and for the safety of all involved in this difficult transition stage. The event is sppnsored by Trinity Episcopal Church and the Washington Baptist Church.
Bus trip to see play
A one-day bus trip to see the “DANIEL” play in Strasburg, Pa. has been planned by the Washington Baptist Church for Saturday, June 7. The cost is $95 for ages 13 and up and $87 for children 3-12 and includes a ticket to the play, supper and bus fare. Call 675-3336.
Gardening seminars
Field and Flower will hold two gardening seminars this spring for persons wishing to learn more advanced organic gardening techniques. The first is on “Permaculture in Action” on Sunday, May 18 from 1-3:30 p.m. and includes how to design a garden to integrate the needs of humans and wildlife. The second is on “Beneficial Insects: Planting for Natural Pest Control” on Saturday, June 7 from 1-3:30 p.m. Seminars are $15 each. Pre-registration is required. Flea market on May 10
On Saturday, May 10 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., a flea market/garage sale will be held at the Rappahannock High School. Relay for Life Cancer Walk teams will host this event and donations for items will benefit the American Cancer Society. Call Michelle Kaye at 675-3157 for more information.
Parenting classes on teens
A parenting workshop on how to raise teenagers will be held on Wednesdays through May 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Rappahannock County Library. It is sponsored by the Department of Social Services at no cost. Advance registration is required. Call 675-3313 or 937-2155.
