More is needed today than just bringing your next door neighbor a “lemon meringue pie,” as nice as that old custom might be.What is needed, I submit, is the evenhanded application of the appropriate rules (as vague as they are).
What also would be welcome is another old-fashioned custom of good neighborliness. In the Little Washington of the 1700s, neighbors would volunteer for “barn raising,” not “barn burning,” and certainly wouldn’t accuse their new neighbors of “disrespect.”
The beauty of Little Washington is, in the comments of one citizen who spoke up at the Town Council meeting, its “eclectic” nature. To say that the Worley home violates the Tbwn Ordinance or c as not meet the “architectural comp' bility” test is simply not accurate and s >uld not be allowed to stand.
