The RCHS girls' track team led for 11 of 15 events, but fell short of winning the Bull Run District meet held last Wednesday, May 14, at Manassas Park High School. The Lady Panthers received strong efforts from the entire team, with many personal bests and head to this week's Region B meet with an eye on continuing their strong showing. Eight girls, double the number from last year's fifth-place regional qualifying team, will represent RCHS in this week's Region B meet to be held on Wednesday, May 21, at the University of Virginia.
Ryisha Cook led the girls' team with an extraordinary day, finishing first in four individual events while setting Bull Run District meet records in the 100m dash, 200m dash, and the triple jump. Cook broke her own 100m and 200m dash records of 12.69 and 26.47 seconds, with times of 12.54 seconds and 26.26 seconds, respectively. Cook also established a new meet record in the triple jump with a 37'7■%" leap, surpassing the old mark of 37' 7" set in 1994.
Finally, Cook won the long jump with a leap of 16' 3 W and anchored the winning Panther 4 x 100m relay team that won the event with a time of 54.74 seconds. By the meet's end, Cook had amassed 42.5 points and received the meet's Most Valuable Female Athlete award.
Mattie Nawrocki also had solid performances, placing third in both the 100m high hurdles (18.14 seconds) and the 300m low hurdles (52.91 seconds). Nawrocki, who has been hampered by a hip injury, captured third in the triple jump (31' 3 Vi j despite having not participated in the event for six weeks.
Nawrocki also ran on the winning 4 x 100m relay team, giving her 20.5 points on the day.
The high jump, with Samantha Brown and Anna Kreyling, continued to be a strong event as both girls cleared 4' 10” to tie for first place. Kreyling also ran on the third-place 4 x 400 team which knocked an astounding 21 seconds off of their previous best effort and finished with a time of 4:38.63.
Courtney Hutcheson rose from a seventh seeding in the 400m dash, placing fifth in the event with a time of 1:08.43, nearly three seconds better than her previous best. Hutcheson also ran on both the 4 x 100m and 4 x 400m relay teams.
Lisa Maloney and Kelsey Hutcheson also turned in exceptional performances in their respective legs of the 4 x 400m relay team. Jami Jacobs, running the important first leg, completed the 4 x 100m relay team.

Brown and Dodd-Henze Place in Bull Run District Meet.
Two boys, Ryan Brown and Albert Dodd-Henze, will represent the boys' track team at the Region B Meet on Wednesday, May 21, in Charlottesville.
