“We want to refocus America and the world on what air and space have done for society,” Dailey said.
People seem to take for granted the technological innovations driven by the pursuit of propelling a human far above the surface of the earth, he said.
“I cannot think of anything we do or use that’s not influenced by air and space,” Dailey said, specifically noting the miniaturization of electronics and the advances in wireless technology.
The new museum, outfitted with enough bells and whistles to wow even the most savvy techie types, will contrast the foundation of flight from its crude beginnings gliding above the Earth’s surface to its future, blasting off into the far reaches of space for new exploration.
More than 200 aircraft and 135 spacecraft eventually will be on display at Dulles.
