Varsity boys’ soccer
The varsity boys’ soccer team traveled to Radford High School to take on the Highlanders in their state quarterfinal contest. The Panthers completely dominated the first half but had to get a goal from Ralph Pace to forge a 1-1 tie at the half. The Highlanders were able to score at the 15 minute mark of the second half and the Panthers, try as they may, could not get the tying score as Radford packed their defense in front of their goal late in the match. The Panthers forced the Radford goal keeper to make 17 saves, some of the spectacular variety, to keep the Panthers off the scoreboard. The team finished 17-4 on the season.
Both teams had excellent seasons. Throughout the season they have shown and conducted themselves well. Members have represented their teams, their school and community with the highest of standards. Advancing to the state tournament and being' among the top eight schools -m the state says a great deal about their level of play as well as their skill and coaching. Congratulations!
