We were happy when the diners didn’t eat their entire meals, as this gave us an opportunity to partake of the food offered on the menu. We never complained about the hard work and less than satisfactory work environment; it was preferable to working in the fields of Rappahannock County.

We both could recall those days when we worked from sun-up to sun-down, thinning corn, chopping weeds, chopping thistles, picking apples and cutting corn.
