Long-time Castleton resident Doris Coughlin recently remarked that the name “Scrabble" prominently displayed on a green sign at the 'intersection of Routes 522 and 826, evolved from the days when this area was called "Hard Scrabble.”

Doris is an active cattle woman, landlord, traveler and friend. She stays busy and is ably assisted by neighbor Melvin Jenkins. Ms. Coughlin recently opened her home to friends, Evelyn and Kasie Hooper. The three women are enjoying their residency together.
Kasie is active in the Marine Corps ROTC. She just recently aced a tough week-long practice boot camp at Fort A. P. Hill. Way to go Kasie.
Welcome to new Castleton community residents Bob Cassell and Krista, Nicholas, Jonathan, Benjamin and Katie Hale.
In January, they bought the farmhouse at 187 Scrabble Road built in the 1920s by Bobby Dennis’ grandfather.
They are first-time homeowners who recently moved here from Arlington after Nicholas graduated from Washington Lee High School.
Jonathan, Benjamin and Katie will be attending Rappahannock elementary in the fall.
