Girl Scouts
receive awards

Four Cadette Girl Scouts in Troop 590 proudly received their silver awards on Saturday, May 31. The silver award is the second highest award achievable in Girl Scouting.
The girls completed projects requiring at least 30 hours of work. They worked in groups of two.
Devin Day and Frances Monroe completed a project entitled "Children Affected by War." Their goal was to inform others about conditions in other countries, to communicate with children in war-tom Iraq, and to make children in Rappahannock County Elementary School aware of the conditions children in Iraq must endure.
The project which Allison Antony and Anne Ashleigh Lamma chose was called "Puppy Love." They collected donations (both monetary and dog care products) from the general public by placing collection boxes at Hackley's Store, the Rappahannock Co-op, Horse and Hound and Settle's Grocery.
They also volunteered at the Rappahannock Animal Shelter, where they enjoyed working directly with the dogs and puppies.
Beyond the actual silver award project, the girls spent an additional 50 hours or more volunteering their time to the community through 4-H counseling, Bible School helpers, and babysitting for PTO meetings.
