Two new limits on abortion became law July 1.
• Minors wall have to obtain written parental consent before having an abortion performed. Up until now, doctors only had to notify the parents.
• In addition, the controversial procedure known as late-term or partial-birth abortion became illegal in Virginia.
The restrictions won approval from the Republicanled General Assembly earlier this year over the objections of Democratic Gov. Mark Warner.
New driving laws have also taken effect.
