As the Massies got closer the sound of their car drove the bear away. The bird feeder was destroyed. The Massies had replaced all the plastic feeders with wooden feeders hoping that they would stand a better chance with the bear.
Just last week they were sitting at dinner one evening around 7:30 when Mrs. Massie looked out the window and saw a black figure in their driveway. Thinking it was her grandchildren’s black lab, she went to the window and was surprised to see that it was a black bear.
The Massies then went to the porch to see the bear more closely. Mr. Massie clapped his hands trying to scare it away.
