Take Audrey Speer, an energetic but soft-spoken 13year-old student at Wakefield Country Day School in Flint Hill. An honor student, she excels in math and history, plays the harp, is co-captain of the volleyball team and is making marks for herself in competitive fencing.
She first gained recognition as a talented fencer when she scored third in a national junior championship last year in the “under 12” category. Her high scoring at the Summer Nationals in Austin, Itexas and qualifications in Virginia state competition will allow her to go on to the U.S. Junior Olympics next month in Cleveland.
