4Midwinter barrel tasting’

Escape to Farfelu Vineyards, Virginia’s First Winery, for its “Midwinter Blues Barrel Tasting Weekend,” Jan. 1719 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. V The winery will offer complimentary Fou de Rouge (Crazy Red) chili, an outdoor bonfire (weather permitting) and a heated deck to take off the chill.

Guests can also experience winemaking in progress with special barrel samples of the 2003 wines and a winemaking tour with Farfelu’s winemaker.

A $5 fee includes regular wine tasting, chili and souvenir glass. Participation in the barrel samples requires a separate $15 ticket. A limited number of barrel sample tickets will be available for 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. each day.

No reservations are needed for the standard tasting, but advance reservations are recommended for barrel samples. Tickets can be purchased by calling 540/3642930 or email: info@farfeluwine.com.

Civil War group to meet

The next meeting of the Blue Ridge Civil War Round Table will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 20 at the Rappahannock County Library at 7:30 p.m. It will be a members’ “show and tell” night with attendees encouraged to bring memorabilia, family letters, and favorite books about the Civil War to share.

Meetings are open to the public and everyone is welcome to attend and join the Round Table.

Garden Club to meet

The regular meeting of the Rappahannock County Garden Club will be held Jan. 21 at 1:30 p.m. at the Washington Fire Hall. The program, “Butterflies in the Garden” will be presented by Billie Ruth Bowen. Hostesses will be Carol Miller, Ruth Baumgardner and Mary Priest.

Free Clinic open

The Rappahannock Free Clinic, a local branch of the Fauquier Free Clinic operates on the first, third and fifth ^ Wednesdays of each month at the Rappahannock County Health Department in Washington.
