over 30 years, Horrock directed a team of reporters at The New York Times that won the 1981 Pulitzer Prize, and headed Newsweek Magazine’s Watergate coverage, which won national awards.

For eight years, he was the Washington Bureau Chief, and assistant managing editor of the Chicago Tribune. The Tribune won seven national awards during his tenure.

A former Marine, Horrock covered the war in Vietnam in 1967-1968, and again in 1970; the Marine peacekeepers in Beirut in 1984; the first Gulf War in 1990-1991 and the war in Bosnia.
