Greg Flournoy, a fifth grader at Rappahannock County Elementary School, won the 65 lbs. state wrestling title at the Virginia AAU Elementary School State Wrestling Tbumament at Bayside High School in Virginia Beach on Jan. 10.
The tournament was divided into three divisions: Kindergarten - 1st Grade; 2nd - 3rd Grade; and 4th - 5th Grade. Each division was divided into specific weight brackets ranging from 35 lbs. to unlimited.
Flournoy entered the tournament as a lower seed in the 65 lbs. division 4th - 5th grades, and was bracketed with 12 wrestlers from across the state. This bracket had three previous AAU elementary state champions.
In his opening match. Flournoy faced off with Rhett Hall from the Hawks Club Flournoy dominated the match from start to finish and won on a second period pin.
His next opponent was second seed, Jeffrey Ogbum of the Pin-to-Win Wrestling Club. Ogbum had also won a
