Audrey, who lives with her parents in Amissville, first showed interest in fencing in the third grade when she was nine years old. Now she is a "passionate enthusiast" and devotes more than 20 hours each week to refine her skills as a saber fencer.

The only child of Jeffrey Speer (who works at the Quantico Marine base as a financial manager) and Diana Speer (a secretary at Wakefield), Audrey is now in her fourth year of training in fencing. Audrey’s father, who also has taken up the sport and practices with his daughter on occasion, insists that she is not yet “ready" for the U.S. Olympics.

With a broad smile, Audrey
