“Cleaning up is 20 percent of your grade, guys!” Mary Arthur called out.
Arthur, a teacher and a chef in her own right, was everywhere instructing, demonstrating, and encouraging her students as they approached their tasks.
Enticing aromas soon began to filter up from the stovetops. Students were preparing almond and rose water-infused Iranian delicacies and stuffed dates.
Arthur moved to Rappahannock County in 1999 to work at the Inn at Little Washington. Earlier, after graduating from the Culinary Institute of America, she served as chef to the Governor of Alaska where she was bom and raised. After working at the Inn at Little Washington for a year and the Middleton Inn, Arthur went out on her own as a caterer and bakery chef and, still later, as a teacher.
