The front page article,
“Grant request sparks battle” in the Feb. 5 issue of the Rappahannock News alarmed me sufficiently' to provoke the first letter I have ever written to the editor. To usurp the right, over our elected officials, to speak for the entire county via a written proposal sent to an outside agency without proper review or approval is outrageous.
I realize that our county’s limited tax base is a challenge in terms of public funding for schools and services. However, I believe solutions to this challenge should be worked openly through our elected officials, rather than blindly (and by being blindsided) by the unreviewed and unapproved opinions and actions of volunteer groups.
