In 1934, Dean won 30 games for the so-called “Gashouse Gang” of the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals won the pennant and Dizzy and his brother Paul each won two games in the ‘34 World Series to beat the favored Detroit Tigers. After becoming a household word with his pitching he had a long career as America’s most beloved baseball announcer. Along with broadcast partner Pee Wee Reese, Dean was the announcer for the first national “Game of the Week” telecasts.
