Culpeper supervisors delayed a vote to approve 766 homes at the county's northern tip, wedged between Fauquier and Rappahannock counties.
Officials rescheduled the vote for 7 p.m. Thursday, April 29 at Culpeper Middle School.
Located at the southeast corner of U.S. 211 and Route 229, and known as Clevenger's Corner, the 1,754-acre site is targeted for homes, retail and offices. It sits about one mile west of Fauquier’s border with Culpeper and just a couple of miles east of Rappahannock’s border.
The delay was caused by the water and sewer treatment system that Centex Homes has proposed for the development. Culpeper’s environmental services director said the proposed system relied on unproven technology- u
“Centex is working on updating the water and sewer agreement with that package plant, trying to find a system that will work,” said Samuel McLearen, Culpeper’s zoning administrator. “The board did not feel comfortable voting on it one way or the other without that in place.”
