County tax

rate could

increase to

76 cents

By Nicholas M. Horrock

Rappahannock News Staff Writer

The Rappahannock Board of Supervisors is studying the $1.6 billion revenue package passed Tuesday by the Virginia General Assembly.

It is undoubtedly going to ease the financing of the $10.4 million county school budget proposal which the supervisors must vote on Monday, and it may hold other advantages for the county, according to County Administrator John McCarthy.

After 105 grueling days of debate, the Republican-controlled General Assembly passed the first general tax increase since 1986, handing Democratic Gov. Mark Warner a major victory and a legacy for his administration.
