He will spend a week in Key Largo, working with therapists, in the classroom and in the water with the dolphins - 13 of them that live in four enclosed saltwater lagoons connected by a canal to the Atlantic Ocean.
Johnny’s parents had read about children with neurological problems who made amazing improvements following interaction with the friendly aquatic mammals.
“My husband and I talked so many times about it. If we had one wish for Johnny, it would be this,” said Michelle.
So when they saw a segment about dolphin-assisted therapy on the Today Show, Michelle contacted Jane Mullan from Project Rainbow of Rappahannock-Rapidan (an organization dedicated to assisting and supporting children with life-threatening diseases and their families! and asked for help.
Mullin researched the options and found Island Dolphin Care in Florida. A video of Johnny demonstrated that he could meet the requirements to participate in the one-week therapy program. He was accepted.
