Perhaps the eeriest thing last week were the meetings that didn’t happen.
The controversial proposed lighting ordinance was up for a public hearing at the Rappahannock Planning Commission last Wednesday.
Some 40 people came to the county courthouse, the best attendance at a Planning Commission in four months, many of the them ready to speak on the lighting ordinance.
But a power outage knocked out electricity in Washington at about 7:25 p.m.. five minutes before the commission was to take up the lighting ordinance.
By 8:30 p.m. it was too dark in the old building to continue.
The matter will be heard on May 19 and could end up before the Board of Supervisors in early summer.
State officials planned a briefing for parents at Rappahannock High School on Thursday evening about adult responsibilities to help their children avoid substance abuse and the deadly driving dangers of that behavior.
