therapists assisting and using the dolphins as motivators, children are willing to do things in order to play with the dolphins that they wouldn’t attempt in other settings.
“Johnny can’t talk but he does communicate,” said Michelle Jenkins. “He does it with his eyes and his smile. And we know that we’re going to see the biggest smile ever when he meets his dolphin.”
A fund-raising spaghetti dinner to help send Johnny Jenkins to Island Dolphin Care will be held Friday, May 7, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the fire hall in Sperryville. The family, which includes Johnny’s eightyear-old brother, Hunter, a second grader at Rappahannock County Elementary School, is looking forward to the dinner.
