It was ribbons galore for Gwen Hays and Clyde Humphrey of West Wind Farm in Castleton as their llamas pranced away with prizes at the Old Dominion Gold Cup Llama Show at Frying Pan Park in Herndon on April 24 and 25.
Over 250 llamas from six states competed. Best of all from a Rappahannock point of view was that Joy Sloane’s favorite llama, Cassiopeia (known more affectionately as Cassie) won a Gold Cup. Joy and husband Bruce have been helping Gwen and Clyde groom and train their llamas for the show.
When Cassie won a Grand Champion Blue Ribbon, it made her eligible to compete for the Gold Cup. Joy took her into th.e ring to contend for the Gold Cup and ended up speechless when the judge designated Cassie as the champion and handed Joy the trophy.
In all, West Wind’s llamas won ten awards, including the Gold Cup and three Blue ribbons. Another Rappahannock llama owned by Sam and Wanda Sneaid of Hillcrest Farm also won a blue ribbon.
