So why do children with muscular dystrophy, cerebral' palsy, cognitive disabilities and other serious illnesses come away improved from their time with dolphins? Biologists have found that dolphins sense when a person is “different” and seem to take a special interest in those people. Through their advanced sonar and echolocation, which scans the body like ultrasound, they can detect not only artificial medical devices but also physical conditions, such as pregnancy and even cancer.

That may explain why dolphins are so attracted to sick children.
