In the first of what may become an annual Mason-Dixon slugout, the Piedmont Softball Association 18 and Under AllStar team hosted the Maryland State Champion 18 and Under All-Stars for a double-header recently at the newly-constructed Babe Ruth softball diamond in Amissville.
The day, Saturday, Aug. 7 proved to be a perfect one to play softball: Beautiful skies, very low humidity, and temperatures between 75 and 80 degrees for the afternoon. The Maryland team came ready to play ball; the week before, they had completed league play with games nearly every day and a tournament at home to finalize their regular season. The Virginia Babe Ruth State Champion Piedmont team, on the other hand, had been idle since early June, with the exception of the Southeast Regional tournament play in Live Oak, Fla., on July 16 and 17.
