Snead announced his retirement as Judge of the 20th Judicial Circuit, effective in early 1980. Snead has been a judge for almost 27 years, presiding at courts in Rappahannock, Fauquier and Loudoun counties. A graduate of Washington High School, he completed his undergraduate studies and law school at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.
Bargains, prizes, good music and some of the last 10 cent hot dogs on record drew hundreds of county residents to the grand opening celebrations for the new home of the Rappahannock Farmers’ Cooperative.
Rappahannock ninth graders, along with students throughout the state, scored slightly higher on the minimum competency tests administered in the spring than did tenth graders given the exam last fall.
Dr. Katherine Oettinger, of Washington, is the author of “Not My Daughter,” a book which deals with the emotional problems of unwanted pregnancies. She has three degrees from Smith College and two honorary degrees, one in humanities and one in law.
