Joyce and Albert Wharton of Sperryville have opened two new businesses on US 211 in Sperryville. Mrs. Wharton is running the Christmas Cabin, located near the Country Elegance Store near the western end of Sperryville. Further up the road, toward downtown Sperryville, Mrs. Wharton’s husband Albert runs Wharton’s Gifts and Produce.
Army Pvt. Tyrone T. Starks completed basic training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C. He is the son of Selena M. Jordan of Washington. He is a 1993 graduate of Rappahannock County High School.
Nancy Gleason is so excited about her new venture, Rainbow Run Riding Stables. Mrs. Gleason and her family took over the trail ride business from Alson Atkins last fall. He ran Rainbow Run in Sperryville for 21 years, and retired at the age of 81.
Welby Lynn and the state of Virginia took first place for the scrapbook she assembled for the National Junior Classical League Convention in Knoxville, Tenn., July 31Aug. 5. Her watercolor drawings filled the entry. Welby will be a senior at Wakefield Country Day School this fall. She is the daughter of Pamela Lynn and the late William Lynn who founded the school.
