Together with Hedrick, McNear visited the Kuntz ranch near Bismarck earlier this year, walking among mares and foals, and visiting the form’s breeding stallions. "They are amazing horses,* McNear said.
Through the untiring efforts of the Nokota conservancy, owners like Hedrick and advocates like McNear; the Nokota breed has gotten a firm foothold in the nation’s equina awareness.
The Nokota was recently made into a Breyer model horse, and Blue Moon Rising, a blue roan gelding, is part of the Kentucky Horse Park’s horse breed lineup. Nokota horses are expected to be part of the Horae Work! Expo at the Maryland State Fairgrounds again in January.
