Hope organized the event. She is director of the Next Step program, which helps students plot out their futures, whatever they might be — college, vocational school or a career. Working out of an office at the school, she advises Students and parents on applying to schools and acquiring financial aid.
Leading the discussion with die grads, Hope asked questions about the application process, financial aid, selecting a major and campus life.
She asked the alums about the SAT. Two of the twelve had taken it five times. No one bad taken it just once.
She asked how many bad put together a resume, sought recommendations and researched financial aid. The alums’ answers, made with a raise of the hand, revealed a time-consuming and exhausting application process. And based on the number of grads who said they had been rejected by schools, a disappointing one, too.
But despite the time, effort and hardship of applying, every grad was happy to be in school. They all said that college was fun, and that it was worthwhile.
Many said that they enjoyed the level of independence that they had at school.
