Tree Pruning
in Winter:
An Excellent
Time of Year
Trees require pruning each year to help ensure healthy new growth, and winter is an ideal time to perform this work, especially on fruit trees. Dead, dying and diseased twigs and branches must be removed to help eliminate pests that overwinter on dead tissue. Thinning to reduce crown density improves the size and quality of fruit. It also increases light and air penetration within the crown, which aids ripening in summer.
Reducing crown density also allows better coverage for insect and disease treatments applied during the growing season. For more information or to schedule an appointment for a complimentary consultation with me, call 877BARTLETT today, or e-mail me atjwood@bartlett.com.
