The Rappahannock Cotinty Recreational Facilities Authority is calling on county residents to give their opinions about Rappahannock County Park near the Town of Washington.
A public hearing is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28, at the County Courthouse on Gay Street in Washington. The authority wants to know what citizens want more of, less of and what changes park users would like the county to make.
County Administrator John McCarthy said the idea for the hearing came from members of the authority who had visited the park recently and found evidence of Rappahannock’s changing demographics.
“They said they found no kids, but a lot of older people,” McCarthy said.
Children still use the park, of course. But McCarthy said that if most of the people using the park are elderly, the county may want to make some changes as to what is available there.
McCarthy said the hearing is to help the authority find out, “Who are our patrons and what do they want?”
The park already includes a basketball court, two tennis courts, a playground and picnic pavilion.
