“I’ve been there many, many times,” said Pellikaan, “but I was so proud to gather with those tens of thousands on the mall because we had chosen hope over fear. It brought the best out of all of us.”
Elizabeth Lee of Sperryville, stayed with her friend, former Speaker of the House Tom Foley and his wife Heather. She stood on the lawn in front of the Capitol in one of the roped off sections for people who got tickets — many by lottery - from whomever their Congressman/woman may have been.
Lee also said it was “difficult to put into words my thoughts and feelings about the Inauguration, the kindness of the people who were gathered around me.” None of which, she said, were from D.C. or Virginia.
Bev Hunter of Amissville tempered the enthusiasm of the Democrats by reminding everyone that “we need to keep all voices at the table,” referring to the majority of Rappahannock residents who voted for Sen. John McCain.
