Mill waine Gets Praise of Boards Re-Elected To School Position T. J Mcllwaine. division super intendent of school in Prince Ed ward and Cumberland counties, was re-eelcted for another four year term at a joint meeting of the two county school boards om Tuesday afternoon. The members of the two boards gave Mr. Icllwaine a rising vote of appn.cia ion for the splendid service he has rendered to the schools in the past years." They commended him for the dignity and manner in which he has con ducted himself as superintendent of the schools in the two counties. Mcllwaine has served as super intendent ot the Prince Edward counly schools since May 31. 1919 He was chosen superintendent of the schools of Prince Edward and Cumberland counties when the two counties united under one superintendent in July 1933. The counties maintan separate school board , etc., but are united under the one superintendent. He assumed the position as Prince Edward Superintendent when he was 26 years of age. and is serving the schools for his 38th consecutive year. This is the tenth consecutive re-election for him in the vital school post. In a comparison of*the cost of school operations. Mcllwaine pointed out that m his first year the money appropriated for the schools was only about $60,000. and of that sum $10,000 was sav ed during the year's operation. Today the budgets of the two county school systems will total approximately $800,000. Prince Edward county has a tentative budget figure of $526,000 and near $300,000 for the coming year.
