“Kenmore Manor” Open
During Garden Week
‘'Kenmore Manor,” the home of Mrs. Alexander Gordon near Huntly, will be another of the homes and gardens open for Garden Week Tour, April 22, 23, and 24. The garden of the estate contains interesting old boxwood and lovely dogwood. The modern'house has many interesting portraits. The estate of 10,000 acres was bought by Basil Gordon of Frederieksur£ in 1822 and was di' ided in 1909 between the Basil Gordon and Douglas Gordon heirs.
“Rock Hill Farm,” on Route 624 out from Front Royal constitutes a Soil Conservation demonstration for Garden Week. A large part of an original tract given by “King” Carter to his daughter, Julia Berkley, the present owners of “Rock Hill Farm” are State Senator and Mrs. Raymond Guest. Included in the inspection are already established pastures: 200 acres of alfalfa, 300 acres of lari ino-orchard grass; 400 acres of blue grass and white clover pasture, and 32 acres of Kentucky 31 and ladino clover, seeded in the fall of 1949.
Shower For Bride-Elect
Mrs'. Claude Cook and Mrs. Emory Russell were joint hostesses at a miscellaneous bridal shower which was held at the Russell home in Flint Hill, on Saturday evening, April 8, honoring Miss Evelyn Cook, bride-elect of Maurice Walker of Washington, D. C.
Miss Cook was presented with ’a bridal bouquet on which were attached eight streamers, which were tied to flowers in the bouquet. On the other end of the streamer was attached a card containing a verse which gave directions as to where each gift could be found in the room. The Verse written on the card of the eighth streamer gave instructions for looking into the fire place, decorated with blue and white crepe paper, where a basket, wrapped in the same colored paper, contained the remainder of the presents.
Twenty-five guests were present at the shower.
