According- to re-stocking records this is t.ie finest lot of trout that, has ever Been stocked in Virginia trout streams. This is due to the unusually successful hatchery opcrations^conducted during the past two ydtirs, and the fish hatchery expansion program . nder monies provided for by the increase in fishing license fees. Id tons are" expected to he stocked during mid-season.
In addition Id this, ti.e federal Fish and Wildlife Service has stocked many thousands of mature trout in the national forest streams. Some 22,000 went into the Jefferson National Forest and another 20,000 into the George Washington.
Officials are strongly appealing to all trout fishermen of the State to be extra careful about their conduct on Virginia streams this year. More and more trout streams annually are being closed to anglers because of the unsportsmanlike conduct of a few thoughtless fishermen! Most of the streams that ate stocked by the Commission outside ofvthe national forest are on privately-owned land and it is only through the co-operation
